Þorrablót UMFL
Icelandic midwinter festival, named for the month of Þorri of the historical Icelandic calendar (corresponding to mid January to mid February), and blót, literally meaning sacrifice. The Þorrablót is an evening with a feast dinner where participants hold speeches and recite poems, originally to honor the Norse god Thor (Þórr), whose name is taken to be associated with Þorri.

A multi-generation race around Laugarvatn . Run through the beautiful Laugarvatn landscape. Over rivers, marshes, peat bogs with a free method. The distance is approx. 8.5 km and there will be a drinking station by Útey after Hólárós has been waded.

Independence Day UMFL
On June 17, 1944, the Republic of Iceland was formally established and Iceland became independent after being under Danish rule. The day has been celebrated as the Icelandic National Day ever since. June 17 was chosen because it is the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson (1811-1879), the leader of Iceland’s independence movement (17uni.is).
